Excellent precision of Tanaka pour point tester, model MPC-101, was shown in an ASTM round robin test program of 1998, and the research report for this round robin is now available from ASTM headquarters as RR:D02-1499. The round robin was intended to evaluate the pour point determination at 1degree intervals, and a total of 6 automatic instrument designs from 5 manufacturers and 7 manual instruments participated. A draft for the Tanaka automatic pour point method has been prepared and is undergoing current balloting process at ASTM.
